The Insider's Guide To Male Prostitution In America
The Secret Lives of Hustlers, Escorts, and Porn Stars (or everything you
ever wanted to know about male prostitution but were afraid to ask)
The shadowy world of the male sex industry has always
been a source of speculation and fascination in our culture. With his new
book, Hustlers, Escorts and Porn Stars, The Insider's Guide to Male
Prostitution in America, author Matt Adams dispels the myths and
superstitions of the subject and presents only the cold, hard facts.
The first section of the book is an introduction to and
classification of the various available types of "hired men" and lets you
know what to expect from each one. From hustlers, to escorts, to massage
therapists to porn stars. Each is a specialist and each has his own particular
way of doing business. Adams says, "location defines a hustler." They work
the streets and bars and adult bookstores and tend to be the most cheaply
had of the industry workers.
When is a massage not just a massage? According to Adams,
there are many ways to ascertain whose "rubdown" will prove the most
"satisfying." As for porn stars and escorts, the customer who has mastered
a few rules of conduct will find satisfaction. Adams offers much advice for
setting and handling "dates", how a client should act and what he should
expect from the experience. Adams says the book is as much for potential
sex industry workers as for potential clients and researchers. Adams says
that most people going into this line of work fail because they don't pay
enough attention to the professional side of their dealings.
The second section of the book addresses these business
concerns in more detail. From dealing with escort agencies to dealing with
sexually transmitted diseases, Hustlers, Escorts and Porn Stars explains
it all in clear, frank language.
Adams also covers things from a legal standpoint. He
states that most male escorts encounter run-ins with the law from time to
time but that penalties are minimal and not really much of a deterrent. Sting
operations are rare because there are fewer male than female prostitutes
and most law enforcement officials are heterosexual men who do not have the
same voyeuristic interests in male prostitutes as females. Adams advises
against any sort of public sex as the risk of police interference is greatest.
He offers tips on what to do if arrested for prostitution or solicitation
and makes an intelligent case for the legalization of prostitution.
The final section of the book consists of appendixes
evaluating the various "markets" in several cities across the nation. Want
to know where to see the best strippers in Dover, Connecticut or a list of
bathhouses in Denver? It's all here. A list of escort agencies and websites
across the nation are also featured as well as lists of particularly famous
escorts and their pager numbers.
Adams gives clear, concise information about a controversial
and confusing topic. This book is for anyone interested in the business (or
pleasure) of prostitution. Mr. Adams is also interested in reader feedback
for use in expanding the information available in the book's next edition.
