CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS
PerPubPoetry
Division of GLB Publishers
GLB Publishers has announced a Call For Poetry
Manuscripts for their new online poetry e-publishing section, PerPubPoetry.
This is the first e-publishing venture to emphasize poetry in the form of
full volumes or chapbooks for download to viewers' computers. (If you know
of a previous one, please notify us!)
The goal of this project is to compile and publish a
collection of poetry particularly pertinent to today's poetrypoetry
by Internet users about Internet use or users (at least marginally). The
poetry may be of any style, any format, any genre, but must relate to some
degree to the Internet; either its inspiration, subject, or language must
include some clear connection to the Internet. Thus this new volume will
be born on the Net, reflect poetry on the Net, and be disseminated by the
Net in the first year of the 2000 millennium. Dissemination will be through
PerPubPoetry, primary poetry download sales facility at GLB Publishers' Website.
There is no charge to the contributors, of course.
The rules are few. Although GLB Publishers, the sponsor
of this publication, are particularly interested in gay, lesbian, and bisexual
work, there is no genre limitation for this project. Any poet can enter by
sending a poem in English on any subject or orientation as a text file by
e-mail to a specific address (see bottom of page). To provide optimal
opportunities for everyone, the poems should be no longer than 300 stanzas
(we won't be too rigid here), and the author must attest that the work has
not been previously published in print or other official format (other than
possibly on Internet chat lists, etc.). The return Internet address must
be a working address, since confirmation of receipt will be sent there. Please
limit the submissions to no more than 3 per person (only the first three
received will be considered), and be sure to include the author name that
you wish to accompany the poem(s). If you wish to use your Internet "handle,"
that is OK. It is likely that the poems will distribute themselves into a
few logical categories, and the book will be designed with those in place.
Until the manuscripts are received, we do not know what those divisions will
be. It is anticipated that the book will contain between 100 and 150 printed
pages (assuming enough acceptable material is submitted for that size).
The deadline for receipt of submissions is March 1, 2000,
and the goal for publication on the Net is June 15, 2000. Authors of both
accepted and unaccepted poems will be notified by April 15, at which time
it will be necessary for the poets of accepted work to send a properly printed
copy of the poem to the editor by mail in order to lessen the chance that
format or typeface will be improperly interpreted. The book (title not yet
selected) will be published for download at PerPubPoetry in black and white
as a PDF file, so your formatting and choice of typeface (or close resemblance)
can be maintained. A 4-color "cover" will be designed for this volume which
will be available for download with the text. Each accepted poet will receive
credit for five free copies of the entire book (plus cover). No other payment
is expected. It would not be possible to pay royalties to all poets to be
included in the book. At this time there are no plans to publish the book
on paper, but if that is done eventually, each accepted poet will also receive
two free printed copies.
The book will be copyrighted by GLB as a collection,
with the copyright for each contribution to reside with the author. (We need
your legal name for this, of course.) Three objective and qualified judges
will be chosen to select the works, to be judged on the basis of writing
skill primarily and also on the appropriateness of the Internet reference
in the poem. Their decisions will be final in all respects. They will be
identified after conclusion of their work.
Send your submissions and any questions you may have
to pppoetry@glbpubs.com.
