COOPERATIVE PUBLISHING INFORMATION
FOR  AUTHORS

Description:
GLB Publishers was established in 1990 as a cooperative publishing company by and for Gays,
Lesbians, and Bisexuals, hence the acronym. Most writing by g/l/b writers was then being rejected by
mainstream publishers, and those conditions still exist in large part. In 1997, GLB expanded to include
a web site for print books and two years later launched the first major e-Book operation for the niche.
For about the last ten years, books published by GLB are both printed and, at the same time, made
available for downloading on the Internet in a wide range of formats. This is the broadest possible
publishing approach of any publisher at this time.

All work is done under contract and you are encouraged to obtain legal advice whenever appropriate.

Submission guidelines:
Submission of the entire manuscript on computer disk plus an outline of the work is needed to start
the process of evaluating. Single spaced is OK but must be prepared with a word processor file
usable with Windows. Novels are usually between 70,000 and 120,000 words. Poetry may require only
about 100 pages, but no less. It should also be sent as a printout (to show the proper formatting).
All work must be available on computer disk; if it is only typed, it can be scanned into the computer
but the author will be charged nominally for that work. Most books can be sent as an attachment to
email. It is best to inquire if there are questions. Print: The procedure here calls for printing costs to
be paid by the author but the remainder of the process is paid for and performed by GLB.
The book is fully edited and edited versions are made available for review and corrections as
necessary by the author. The cover is designed and the author's concepts can be incorporated as
appropriate. The publisher accomplishes all the technical work and interfaces as well as storage
and fulfillment. The royalty on sales of these books is 25% (5% less for overseas and hardcovers)
of list price, paid semi-annually. These books are sold on concession to bookstores via GLB
wholesalers and distributors world-wide (US and Canada, United Kingdon/Europe, and Australia).
These books are also made available as e-books for Internet download. The author receives
royalty of half the charge made for downloading e-books. A novel or a collection of short stories
normally sells for $7 to $8 ($1 per short story) as downloads to Internet buyers, and the royalty on
these sales is 50%, paid monthly. The price for non-fictions is determined on a case-by-case basis.
The work is made available in many different formats (7-10 at the present) to facilitate sales
according to convenience to the buyer. E-Book Magazine: We also sponsor online gay
(www.e-gaymag.com ) and lesbian "magazines," (www.e-lesmag.com ) where novellas (25,000 to
50,000 words) are popular as e-books (usually too short for a printed book) as well as non-fiction.
     The manuscript must be prepared with a word processing program (most people use MS Word);
we use Word Perfect regularly and also Open Office. Please do not use fancy formatting since it
must be removed in any case. The first page should include the Title, Author (may be pseudonym),
actual author's name and address, date, and email address. Do not skip lines between paragraphs;
indent each paragraph with a left tab.  For poetry a print-out should be available to be sure of proper
formatting.
Comparisons: GLB Publishers is a niche press, committed to gay/lesbian/and bisexual writing.
We work hard to select, design, and publish good books and to sell them aggressively. We
welcome questions at any time.
