Those who share this belief may find Soft Slow Motion, a collection
of Schnell's straight-forward, simply stated poems, to be of particular interest.
Schnell often poses a question and then explores its implications. Poems
such as "Say It All Again," "Inside Search," "Like a Glove," "Round and Round,"
"Pistol," "Family," "Unspoken" and "God Is Love" draw the reader into the
poet's analytical process. But Schnell declines definitive answers in favor
of more philosophical conclusions. In "Rainbow," an interesting variation
of this format, the question is the end, not the beginning...
Schnell leaves me wanting something more—more detail,
description, revelation—and more risk.
